What Do I Teach?

I offer one-on-one lessons in guitar, bass, piano, mandolin, and ukulele. With professional training and a degree from the renowned University of North Texas School of Jazz, I'm well versed in various musical styles including Jazz, Classical, Blues, Latin, Rock, Pop, and Folk. As an experienced songwriter and composer, my lessons also include elements of music theory and composition—the building blocks of song writing for those interested in creating their own music!

Guitar

My principal instrument, personal area of expertise, and the thing that taught me to love music! Accepting all skill levels from beginner to advanced and focusing on a strong foundation in the basics all while learning your favorite tunes. Can conduct lessons using traditional guitar tablature or in standard music notation for those who want to take their musicianship to the next level.

Bass

The backbone of any band! Focusing on the electric bass for beginner to intermediate players in a wide variety of styles and an emphasis on playing in a group setting.

Piano

I truly believe every musician should have some foundation on the piano. The harmonic and songwriting possibilities are endless! Accepting beginner to intermediate players with an emphasis on solid fundamentals while also, and most importantly, learning the songs that you love. Playing piano should be fun!

Mandolin & Ukulele

Two of the most popular instruments with new players wanting to start their musical journey! Accepting all skill levels with a focus on proper technique, chord vocabulary, and playing in a group setting.

Reviews

Some Kind Words From Students!

"I started trying to learn how to play guitar in my late 40's and had gone through 4 teachers before a co-worker recommended Tristan to me. Tristan immediately got me started on songs that I wanted to play, rather than ones that beginners "should" play. This made it so much more fun from the start, and the possibilities with Tristan's teaching seem unlimited!

He is able to teach practical techniques used in classic rock, blues, and jazz. And if I ask about the intent of a particular chord progression, he is easily able to dive into music theory without getting too technical. He has a keen eye for proper technique, and offers great tips for improvement which no sheet music or video can provide. I have enjoyed learning a variety of songs from the Eagles, Van Morrison, Steely Dan, the Stones, and some jazz standards by Herbie Hancock and Kenny Burrell. My only regret is that I didn't start learning from Tristan much sooner!"
